Located at an elevation of 1451mts above sea level, Karnaprayag is one of the five confluences of Alaknanda River where it meets with Pindar River coming from Kumaon region.
Karnaprayag is a mythological important site as it is the place where Karna of Mahabharata worshipped the Sun God to acquire impregnable shield. An ancient temple dedicated to Uma and Karna is also situated here. While on a visit to Himalayas, Swami Vivekananda also meditated here with his gurus.

|Uma Devi Temple
Uma Devi Temple and Karna Temple are one of the major attractions of Karnaprayag. Karnaprayag is named after Karna of Mahabharata. Karna worshipped Sun God here to acquire impregnable shield. After a cycle of twelve years, Goddess Uma's idol is taken out in a grand procession to her maternal place at Dimmer village. The temple holds esteemed importance for the locals.
It is the inaugural point of the greatest and longest Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra. The yatra is one of the longest pilgrimage tour covered by foot into the strenuous path endowing profuse natural beauteousness which can leave anyone spellbound. The yatra is done once in 12 years. The Nauti village is said to be the home of Goddess Nanda. The yatra was completed in 2014 after a gap period of 12 years.
